Bikkura Tamago: Japan’s Surprise-Toy Bath Bombs Kids Go Wild For

By CRUNCH STASH Team  •   2 minute read

In Japan, getting kids into the bath is rarely a battle — and one small, fizzy invention deserves a lot of the credit. Bikkura Tamago (びっくらたまご, roughly “surprise egg”) are bath bombs by Bandai with a toy hidden in the middle. Drop one in the tub, watch it fizz and dissolve, and a little collectible floats free. It turns bath time into a lucky-dip — and yes, they work just as well in an Australian bathtub on a cold Melbourne night.

How they work

Each Bikkura Tamago is a palm-sized fizzing ball with a lightly scented tint and a small capsule toy sealed inside. As the ball dissolves in warm water, the fizz builds anticipation — then the capsule appears. Every series has several possible figures and the one you get is random (it’s printed right on the pack), which is exactly why kids ask for “one more bath” to complete the set. Think blind box, but the unboxing is the bath itself.

All of these are in stock now and shipped Australia-wide from our Melbourne warehouse:

Why they make great little gifts

At pocket-money prices, Bikkura Tamago are ideal for birthday party bags, advent-style countdowns, a reward chart treat, or a stocking stuffer that beats another chocolate. For collectors, buying two or three of the same series raises the odds of new figures — and doubles are great for swapping.

Good to know for parents

  • The capsule toys contain small parts — check the age guidance printed on each pack (most series are marked 3+ or 6+), and supervise young children in the bath as you always would.
  • The fizz is gentle and the water tint rinses away with the bathwater — no scrubbing the tub afterwards.
  • Which toy you get is random within each series; the full line-up is pictured on the back of the pack.

A cold snap is the best excuse: warm bath, fizzing surprise, one very cooperative kid. Browse the full Daily Care range for more, or pair a bath ball with a Popin’ Cookin’ DIY candy kit for a full Japanese-style kids’ afternoon — everything ships fast, Australia-wide.
